William S. Darling (1882-1963)...Born: Sandorhaji, Hungary

William Darling was born Wilmos Bela Sandorhazi. In 1910, he immigrated to America and by the early 1920s, had changed his name to Darling, his wife's maiden name, and settled in Southern California. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, William Darling produced watercolors and gouache paintings depicting local scenes and also worked as an artist for Twentieth Century-Fox Studios. During the 1950s, Darling became a well-known figure in the Laguna Beach and Palm Springs art communities. His works from this era primarily depict coastal views and desertscapes, painted with watercolor or oil on canvas.
