GEORGE JOHN FLOWER (1900-1976) Los Angeles, CA.
Flower was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Southern California. In 1920 he sailed for Europe to study art in Paris at Academie Julian and Ecole des Beaux Arts and in Rome at the Beaux Arts Academy. After five years in Europe, he returned to his native city and established a studio-home in the Arroyo Seco. He taught at the Los Angeles Art Institute in 1928 and operated his own art school in Pasadena in 1937. For a while, he shared a studio with Nicholai Fechin and studied privately with Jules Pages. During the 1930s he painted portraits and a few landscapes of the area around his home. During WWII Flower began working as an illustrator for the aircraft industy and continued in that line until his retirement in 1964. For many years he lived in San Clemente, CA and produced oils of the coast near his home.
